TCU men’s golf qualifies for NCAA tournament

TCU men’s golf advanced to the NCAA Championship after it tied for fourth at the NCAA Washington Regional on Saturday in Bremerton, Wash.

The Frogs shot a 290 on the final day and finished tied for fourth with Washington with an 854.

Giulio Castagnara shot a 1-under 71 and finished tied for fifth with a 209. Chelso Barrett was 10th (70-212) and Paul Barjon was 22nd (74-215).

Alabama-Birmingham (843) won the team title. The NCAA Championship are May 29-June 3 in Bradenton, Fla.

Texas and Texas Tech also advanced by finishing first and second, respectively, in the Lubbock Regional.

In other TCU news:

▪ Track and field: TCU placed three in the top five of the men’s high jump at the Big 12 track and field outdoor championships in Ames, Iowa. Ramone Bailey finished second (25 feet, 1 1/4 inches, 1 1/2 behind the winner)), Cameron Echols Luper fourth (24-3 1/2) and Scotty Newton fifth (23-11 1/2).

In qualifying for today’s finals, TCU placed Ronnie Baker (first fastest), Kolby Listenbee (fifth) and Bailey (eighth) in the men’s 100.

In the 200, Echols-Luper (second), Listenbee (fifth) and Sam Watts (eighth) qualified.

Also in men, Joshua Washington qualified in the 400 and Lavon Collins in the 400 hurdles, and in the women, Tiffany Terry qualified in the 400, and Brianna McGhee and Makaila Flannigan in the 100 hurdles.

Regional softball

▪ Oklahoma 7, Texas A&M 5: Erin Miller hit a tiebreaking two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh as OU advanced to the Norman Regional finals.

▪ Louisiana Lafayette 3, Baylor 1: Jordan Wallace, from Weatherford, pitched a complete-game four-hitter for Lafayette.

▪ UCLA 4, Texas 1: The Bruins hit three homers in the Los Angeles Regional.
