TCU basketball dips in AP Top 25 but still climbing on other lists

A week off cost TCU in Associated Press Top 25 rankings.

The Horned Frogs dropped a spot to No. 15 after being idle for finals, so they are now two spots off matching their highest ranking in school history in the 68-year-old media poll.

But coach Jamie Dixon’s squad continues to climb on other lists.

The Frogs gained a spot to No. 10 in the ESPN power rankings, gained two spots to No. 11 in Gary Parrish’s Top 25 (and one) for CBS and are ninth in Jon Rothstein’s Top 25 for FanRag Sports.

The Frogs remained at No. 14 in the USA Today Coaches Poll.

This week, TCU gets a chance to add to its unbeaten record and extend its 15-game winning streak with games against Texas Southern and William & Mary. The Frogs (10-0) can tie the school record with a 15th consecutive win, including five to finish last season, on Monday night against winless Texas Southern.

William & Mary is 7-3 but with a strength of schedule ranked 239th by ESPN.

In RPI, TCU is fifth. Last week, the Horned Frogs were projected a four-seed in the NCAA tournament in Joe Lundardi’s Bracketology for ESPN.

TCU is recognizing former Terrell and Dunbar high school coach Robert Hughes, a Texas Southern alum, at halftime of Monday’s game, with former players Darrell Browder, James Griffin, Cletus Hubbard and Landon Johnson scheduled to attend. Hughes, 89, was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in September as the winningest boys basketball coach in history with 1,333 victories in a 47-year career.
