TCU going ‘super, super slow’ with Janczak, Schlossnagle says

TCU ace Jared Janczak has begun a rehab throwing program but probably will not pitch before the end of the regular season, coach Jim Schlossnagle said.

The sophomore right-hander has missed his last two starts with a shoulder strain.

“In my mind, right now, to think he would pitch before the conference tournament is probably a pipe dream,” Schlossnagle said Tuesday night following TCU’s 3-0 victory against Abilene Christian. “It’d be awesome if he could get an inning in the Cal series. But we’re not even close to him long-tossing or really putting something on the baseball yet.”

The Big 12 tournament is three weeks out, May 24-28 in Oklahoma City. The Cal series is May 19-21 in Berkeley, Calif.

Janczak (6-0, 2.25) ranks fourth in the Big 12 in earned-run average and second in batting average against (.161). He has taken no-hitters into the ninth inning and seventh innings this season.

Schlossnagle said Janczak threw two sessions from 60 feet on Tuesday and reported good results.

“But we’re going super, super slow,” Schlossnagle said. “Yes, he’s on schedule, but I don’t know for what.”

Nick Lodolo will start again on Friday night in Janczak’s place when the Horned Frogs start a three-game series against Texas at Lupton Stadium, Schlossnagle said. The freshman left-hander Lodolo has won starts against Baylor and Texas Tech since sliding into the Friday night role.

The Frogs, leaders in the Big 12 by one game, finish the league schedule with a May 12-14 series at Oklahoma.
