Patterson: TCU staying with Hill at QB after getting Sawyer work

TCU is staying with Kenny Hill at quarterback for Friday’s game at Texas, despite his being pulled for a second time in three games, coach Gary Patterson said Monday during the Big 12 coaches conference call.

Foster Sawyer finished last week’s 31-6 loss against Oklahoma State, as he did a 27-24 double overtime loss to Texas Tech.

“The game was a little bit out of hand, so I felt like Foster in that kind of environment against that kind of defense needed some work,” Patterson said.

Sawyer entered in the fourth quarter with the score 31-6 following the second of two interceptions by Hill.

Sawyer completed two of five passes for 32 yards. Hill was 178-for-27 for 166 yards and a touchdown and took two sacks. He ran for 79 yards, including a 40-yard run that put TCU in position to take the lead before halftime. But a goal line stand left Oklahoma State with a 10-6 lead.

“Oklahoma State did a great job, to be honest with you,” Patterson said. “We moved drives. We didn’t get the ball in from inside the 5. At some point in time, you’ve got to be able to run the football, and we didn’t — with three or four tries once. You’ve got to get the ball in the end zone.”
