UTA men go cold in final minutes, fall at Troy

Wesley Person Jr. scored a career-high 31 points and ignited the game-winning comeback run to lift Troy to a 71-66 victory over UT Arlington on Monday night.

Trailing by four with 3:21 left in the game, Troy (6-6, 1-2 Sun Belt) got a 3-pointer from Person that cut the margin to 66-65 and sparked a 9-0 run to the buzzer. The burst was capped with dunks from Kevin Thomas and Chris Bilbo, who finished with 17 points.

The Trojans shot 53 percent from the floor, including 8 of 16 from 3-point range to snap a two-game skid and avenge last season’s loss to the Mavericks (8-5, 2-1).

In a close game where neither team led by double figures, UTA took a 36-34 advantage into halftime but didn’t score in the final three minutes of the game.

Johnny Hill led the Mavericks with 19 points and seven rebounds, while Jamel Outler added 10 points.
