Transfer round-up: How Texas schools have fared in the transfer portal

The 2024 college football season is coming to an end with the CFP National Championship game set to take place on Monday. With the season close to its conclusion how have Texas schools fared in the transfer portal?

Texas Tech

Outlook: Texas Tech had the most incoming transfers (17) of any team listed and had one of the top transfer classes in the country. According to 247 Sports the Red Raiders had the third-best class in the country after LSU and Ole Miss.

Outlook: The Aggies used the portal well in head coach Mike Elko’s first year, focusing on improving their wide receiver core. One of those receivers Texas A&M brought in was Micah Hudson, previously the highest-ranked recruit in Texas Tech history when he signed with the Red Raiders out of high school in 2023.

SMU

Outlook: Following their first CFP playoff appearance the Mustangs made adding to their offensive and defensive lines in the transfer portal a top priority with four of their top five recruits at those positions.

Outlook: The Horned Frogs top addition was wide receiver Jordan Dwyer out of Idaho who is coming off a breakout season with 78 catches for 1,192 yards and 12 touchdowns and could help replace All Big 12 receiver first CFP playoff appearance the Mustangs in December.
