Report: The Big 12 baseball tournament is headed to Globe Life Field
The Big 12 baseball tournament is coming to Globe Life Field in 2022, according to a report in The Oklahoman.
A formal announcement is expected on Wednesday morning at a news conference with officials from the Texas Rangers and Big 12 at Globe Life Field.
A Rangers spokesman declined comment on the report.
The Oklahoman reported that Globe Life Field and the Big 12 have reached a three-year deal for the tournament to be played at Arlington’s new $1.1 billion stadium from 2022-24.
The tournament has been a staple in Oklahoma City since the conference formed and hosted its first baseball tournament in 1997. Most of the tournaments have been played at OKC’s Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark since it opened in 1998.
The tournament has been played away from OKC just three times, including at The Ballpark in Arlington in 2002 and 2004 and Tulsa’s ONEOK Field in 2015.
The college baseball season gets underway in less than two weeks. TCU opens its season with a three-game series against Kentucky starting Feb. 14 at Lupton Stadium.
