Fort Worth Cats manager resigns for health reasons

The Fort Worth Cats announced Thursday that manager Mike Marshall has resigned, effective immediately, to address personal health issues.

Assistant coach Barrett Weaver will serve as Cats manager for the remainder of the season.

Marshall was to return to California for some required medical procedures and should be on the mend by the end of the month, according to a story on the Cats website.

Marshall, a first baseman and outfielder, played 11 seasons in the major leagues, coming up in the Los Angeles Dodgers organization and winning two World Series with LA.

The Cats’ game Thursday at LaGrave Field against the Brownsville Charros was postponed due to rain. No makeup date has been set. Thursday’s tickets can be exchanged for any remaining game.

The Cats host the Charros at 7:05 tonight at LaGrave Field.
