Mansfield unveils ‘southern gateway of soccer’ to host new team

Texas Health Mansfield Stadium officially opened for operations Wednesday morning with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

After hosting the Czechia World Cup team throughout June and having a community day for fans, construction was finally finished. The stadium will be home to North Texas Soccer Club, which competes in MLS Next Pro, the third division of professional soccer in the U.S. The team is owned and operated by FC Dallas.

“So we want to welcome everybody to what we can finally say now is the southern gateway of soccer in the DFW Metroplex,” Mansfield Mayor Michael Evans said. “I am happy to proclaim it is soccer time in Mansfield, Texas.”

Many speakers were present for the ceremony, including Dan Hunt, FC Dallas owner and president. Hunt also owns the Kansas City Chiefs with his siblings and has a minority stake in the Chicago Bulls.

“We are now in the greatest moment of the history of soccer in our country. 2026 is truly the year of soccer and I know that because of the success of the U.S. national team programs,” Hunt said. “I know that because we are opening first class, world class facilities right here in Mansfield, Texas, that everyone is going to look to and say, that is a soccer mecca.”.

REV Entertainment and FC Dallas will serve as the operators of the stadium. The stadium has over 6,000 seats, with suite options for fans on the west side of the stadium. The east side has openings where food trucks can be available on match days.

Some features of the stadium include the Mansfield Mile, which is the longest bar in an outdoor stadium in North America. The also have a team store, Soccer 90, that will be open outside of match days as well.

The stadium features a Bermuda grass field that was trucked in from South Texas in February. Some construction is still going on outside the stadium, with another parking lot to be added on the north side. The stadium is in Mansfield’s entertainment district, with hotels expected to be built around the stadium.

The focus is to continue for soccer to rise in North Texas, and the stadium is trying to help that rise.

“Throughout North Texas, Dallas is hosting more World Cup matches than any other city has ever hosted, and soccer is having its moment. There’s a commentary this morning in the Wall Street Journal about how America is a soccer country now and today, we bring soccer once again here to North Texas,” Chris Ackels of Hunt Sports Group said.

The stadium is going to host the U.S. women’s soccer team on Nov. 27 against El Salvador in the quarterfinals of the CONCAF championship. The U.S. women’s rugby national team will also play against Italy at the stadium on Oct. 17.

FC Dallas will also use the stadium for some matches, with one on July 15 for a preseason game against Orlando City. The venue is expected to be used for concerts in the future, but none are currently scheduled.

The stadium will see its first official match on Saturday as North Texas SC kicks off at its new home at 7:45 p.m. with fireworks after the match against St. Louis City 2.
