TCU men’s basketball lands transfer commitment from Big 12 rival

TCU men’s basketball has landed its third transfer portal commitment.

The Horned Frogs signed Texas Tech center Luke Bamgboye on Saturday, Bamgboye announced on social media. Bamgboye is a 6-foot-11 big originally from London.

In his lone season with the Red Raiders, Bamgboye started 12 of the 21 games he appeared in last season. He averaged 4.5 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game.

He started his career at VCU, where he started 24 of 35 games he appeared in. Bamgboye averaged 3.8 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.1 blocks for the Rams. Bamgboye is raw offensively, but could make a huge impact as a rim protector, especially with the departure of David Punch.

The addition of Bamgboye rounds out TCU’s frontcourt for next season nicely. The Horned Frogs return All-Big 12 forward Xavier Edmonds to lead the unit.

TCU also signed West Virginia forward DJ Thomas on Monday. Thomas showed plenty of potential in his freshman season with the Mountaineers. TCU is also bringing in 7-footer Ryan Hunt, a top-15 junior college player, and 6-10 Serbian forward Milos Sojic.

Edmonds had to play center last season, but should be able to play his more natural position of power forward next season.

The three-man battle among Hunt, Thomas and Bamgboye will one of the key storylines for TCU to sort through this offseason.
