Where did Texas schools rank in ESPN’s way-too early college rankings?
The 2025 College Football season ended with Ohio State’s 34-23 win over Notre Dame in the College Football Playoff Championship game.
ESPN came out with its way-too-early college football rankings for the 2026 season, and three Texas schools made the list with two others earning honorable mentions.
Which Texas program earned the top ranking?
That distinction goes to the Texas Longhorns ranked at the No. 2 on the list, with the Buckeyes earning the No. 1 spot.
The Longhorns are coming off back-to-back CFP semifinal game appearances and will start Arch Manning, one of the sport’s biggest stars, at quarterback next season.
The next Texas school on the list was No. 15 ranked SMU, coming off its best season in the CFP era after making the CFP playoffs for the first time in school history.
The final school to make the top 25 was the No. 22 ranked Texas A&M Aggies.
In the Aggies’ second season under head coach Mike Elko, they will rely on one of the best transfer classes in the country to try and continue the forward momentum from Elko’s first year behind the helm.
Baylor and Texas tech both earned mentions but neither was able to crack the top 25.
