Continued rain prompts flash flood watches across North Texas, wet commute

Flash flood watches remained in effect for all of North Texas as today’s commute began in the rain.

Flooding in Granbury prompted the Red Cross to open a shelter, KRLD radio reported early Wednesday. Flood warnings were in effect for Hood, Erath, Johnson and Somervell counties this morning, said Jesse Moore, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Fort Worth.

“There’s an amazing amount of flooding in Granbury,” Moore said. Rain is falling on already-saturated ground, contributing to flood conditions.

As of 7 a.m., 1.55 inches of rain had fallen at Dallas/Fort Worth Airport over the preceding 24 hours.

Moore said the flash flood watches would remain in effect until 7 p.m. Thursday.

He said to expect widespread rain through Friday, with rain chances decreasing Saturday and ending Sunday night.

  • Chances for today and tonight: 70 percent
  • Thursday, Thursday night: 60 percent
  • Friday, 60 percent, Friday night 50 percent
  • Saturday 50 percent, Saturday night 20 percent
  • Sunday, 20 percent

High temperatures through Friday are expected to be in the upper 70s, with overnight lows in the mid 60s. Saturday and Sunday forecasts call for highs around 80 and lows in the 60s.
