Thunderstorms, flash floods, chance of large hail in store for Easter weekend
Widespread showers and storms are in the forecast for the evening of Friday, April 3 after a relatively dry, warm and breezy Good Friday morning. Those storms could produce severe thunderstorms, damaging winds, large hail and a few flash floods in certain areas, according to the National Weather Service Fort Worth.
Isolated storms are expected to develop in the North Texas area Friday around midday. The best chance for rain for the DFW Metroplex will be during the next round of storms from midnight to 9 a.m. Saturday, April 4. Heavy rain, flash flooding and large hail are the main concerns with these storms. The greatest flooding threat is expected from midnight to noon on Saturday.
The storms should move out of the Fort Worth area by 9 a.m. and shift into Central Texas by midday Saturday. Anywhere from 3 to 5 inches of rain is expected, with areas north of I-20 and along/west of I-35 forecast to receive the highest rainfall totals, according to NWS Fort Worth.
Will it rain on Easter Sunday?
Rain will “mostly be out of our area” on Easter Sunday, according to the NWS, but it will be cloudy. Sunday’s temps will range from the upper 60s to low 70s, with winds around 10 mph or less.
Those temps will remain in effect though Tuesday, along with partly cloudy skies.
Rain chances will return to the area Thursday, April 9.
