Heavy rain, damaging winds coming to North Texas this weekend. See the forecast

Strong to severe thunderstorms bringing chances of heavy rain and damaging winds will arrive in North Texas late Friday, Oct. 24.

Before then, isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible across the region through Friday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service Fort Worth. Storms chances will increase from west to east in the late afternoon to evening hours.

Thunderstorms will develop west of the region and move through North and Central Texas late Friday into early Saturday, Oct. 25. This period will hold the highest threat for strong to severe storms, according to the NWS.

The primary threats are heavy rain and damaging winds, along with low chances of large hail. There is also a low chance for spin-up tornadoes overnight in areas south of Interstate 20 and west of Interstate 35.

Most likely rainfall totals for this activity will range from 1 to 3 inches, with isolated amounts near 3 to 4 inches, according to the NWS. Temperatures will be in the low 80s Friday.

Timing for weekend storms

The NWS has released the following storm timing for Friday and Saturday.

West Metroplex (Graham, Mineral Wells, Stephenville)

  • Earliest start: 6 p.m. Friday
  • Most likely: 7-10 p.m. Friday
  • Ending by: Midnight Saturday

Central Metroplex (Dallas, Denton, Fort Worth)

  • Earliest start: 8 p.m. Friday
  • Most likely: 9 p.m. Friday to midnight Saturday
  • Ending by: 1 a.m. Saturday

East Metroplex (Greenville, Canton, Paris)

  • Earliest start: 10 p.m. Friday
  • Most likely: 11 p.m. Friday to 2 a.m. Saturday
  • Ending by: 4 a.m. Saturday

Saturday storm chances

Saturday morning will be mostly rain-free, ahead of more storms in the afternoon and evening.

Central Texas is expected to see scattered strong thunderstorms with threats of small hail, gusty winds and lightning, according to the NWS. A flooding threat will also stick around though the afternoon and evening hours.

In North Texas, precipitation is expected throughout the day with chances of heavy rainfall. Storms will continue Saturday night and exit the region overnight.

Temperatures will be in the mid-70s Saturday.
