It’ll be a warm weekend in North Texas. How that compares to last September

North Texans are in store for a warm weekend.

Temperatures will be in the mid-90s on Friday, Sept 12, as heat index values hover around 99 degrees, according to the National Weather Service Fort Worth. Overnight lows will dip into the mid-70s.

Similar conditions are in the mix on Saturday, Sept. 13, and Sunday, Sept. 14. Daily highs will be in the mid-90s, with heat index values only a few degrees higher than actual temperatures.

No rain is in sight over the weekend as sunny skies will prevail, according to the NWS.

Warm weather to continue next week

Heading into next week, warm temperatures will continue across the Metroplex.

Daily highs will be in the low 90s on Monday, Sept. 15, and Tuesday, Sept. 16, according to the NWS. Temperatures will increase slightly on Wednesday, Sept. 17, into the mid-90s.

By Thursday, Sept. 18, and Friday, Sept. 19, temperatures are expected to settle back into the low 90s.

How does September 2024 compare to September 2025?

Temperatures are a few degrees warmer through the first 11 days of September this year compared to 2024.

The average temperature through Sept. 11, 2024, was 86 degrees, while the same range this year is 89 degrees. North Texas also reached 100 degrees in September this year, but did not in 2024.

According to NWS data, temperatures this year have mostly been below normal through the first 11 days of September:

  • Sept. 1 normal- 93 degrees, 2025- 89 degrees
  • Sept. 2 normal- 92 degrees, 2025- 92 degrees
  • Sept. 3 normal- 92 degrees, 2025- 91 degrees
  • Sept. 4 normal- 92 degrees, 2025- 102 degrees
  • Sept. 5 normal- 92 degrees, 2025- 98 degrees
  • Sept. 6 normal- 91 degrees, 2025- 79 degrees
  • Sept. 7 normal- 91 degrees, 2025- 82 degrees
  • Sept. 8 normal- 91 degrees, 2025- 83 degrees
  • Sept. 9 normal- 91 degrees, 2025- 87 degrees
  • Sept. 10 normal- 91 degrees, 2025- 91 degrees
  • Sept. 11 normal- 90 degrees, 2025- 93 degrees

Looking ahead through the rest of the month, the NWS’ Climate Prediction Center is predicting temperatures will be above normal over the next couple weeks.

The 6-10 day outlook, valid from Sept. 17-21 and issued on Sept. 11, shows a 60-70 percent chance of above normal temperatures in North Texas. The 8-14 day outlook, valid from Sept. 19-25 and issued on Sept. 11, predicts a 50-60 percent chance of above normal temperatures.
