Umbrellas ready? Storm chances continue through Sunday, flash floods possible

Much of North and Central Texas is under a flood watch Saturday as thunderstorms and scattered heavy rain loom over the metroplex, according to the National Weather Service.

Numerous scattered showers and storms will continue in the area through Sunday, with pockets of heavy rain and an increase in the risk for flash flooding, according to a forecast released Saturday. Rainfall is expected to total between 1 and 3 inches, with some areas receiving up to 5 inches.

Saturday’s temperature will peak at 90 degrees with lows in the mid-70s, according to the weather service. Rain chances will increase to 50% in the evening, up from 40% in the afternoon.

The famed Texas summer heat is expected to return by Tuesday with temperatures in the mid- to high 90s and heat indices up to 103 degrees.
