Hail, tornadoes and thunderstorms possible in Fort Worth. See when severe storms arrive
North Texas will start the week with a threat of hail, tornadoes and severe thunderstorms.
A line of thunderstorms will approach from the west after midnight, reaching the Interstate 35 corridor around sunrise on Tuesday, March 4, according to the National Weather Service Fort Worth.
Damaging wind gusts and “spin-up” tornadoes, which is weather slang for a small-scale vortex initiation (or what might look like a gustnado), will be the main threats, according to the NWS.
A chance for isolated large hail is possible, although the threat is low. Additionally, the threat of flooding is also low due to the nature of the storm system, the NWS said.
Monday to Tuesday weather
Ahead of the strong to severe thunderstorms Tuesday, there’s a low (10%) chance of storms on Monday, March 3.
The storm chance will be along the dryline west of U.S. Highway 281 over the late afternoon and early evening hours, according to the NWS. Beyond that, temperatures will be in the low 70s Monday.
Along with the stormy weather Tuesday, it will be windy in North Texas with west to southwest winds between 20 to 35 mph and gusts up to 45 mph.
The windy conditions and low humidity will lead to an elevated fire weather threat for areas west of Interstate 35 on Tuesday. A fire weather watch is in effect through Tuesday afternoon for areas along/south of Interstate 20 and along/west of U.S. Highway 281.
