Fort Worth ISD schools will operate on a normal schedule on Wednesday, Feb. 19, following consultation with the National Weather Service, district officials said Tuesday evening.

Temperatures will plummet Tuesday as an arctic front moves through the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, according to the weather service.

Much of the North Texas area is under a winter weather advisory from 5 p.m. until midnight Tuesday, and an extreme cold warning from 9 p.m. Tuesday until 9 a.m. Thursday.

Low temperatures in the teens are forecast Tuesday and Wednesday nights and the high will be around 30 degrees Wednesday, according to the weather service.

Any ice accumulations on the roads from a light mix of freezing rain and other precipitation Tuesday night will be minimal — a few hundredths of an inch — but commuters should watch for possible slick spots on bridges and overpasses, NWS officials said. No precipitation is forecast on Wednesday.

School staff will be available to provide early access to buildings, and parents should dress their children in warm layers tomorrow, Fort Worth ISD said.
