Bitter cold weather has arrived in North Texas; freezing temperatures expected to last
Bitter cold weather has arrived in Fort Worth and will continue through the middle of the week, forecasters say.
Low temperatures will be in the teens and low 20s with wind chill factors between 3 degrees and 14 degrees, the National Weather Service Fort Worth said.
Snow is expected Monday night into Tuesday morning, with the greatest accumulations across the southern counties of Central Texas, according to the NWS.
Little to no accumulation is expected in North Texas and the Dallas-Fort Worth area, which may see some flurries.
The southeast counties likely will experience snowfall with totals around 1 to 2 inches, with isolated areas experiencing up to 3 inches.
The dangerous cold will continue through Wednesday. Lows in the teens and 20s are expected throughout all of North and Central Texas.
During the late night and early morning hours, wind chills are forecast to be between 5 and 15 degrees.
As cold weather approaches, the NWS is asking people to check on neighbors and family, bring pets indoors, cover all exposed skin, protect outdoor pipes and let indoor faucets drip to prevent burst pipes.
There may be some impact on travel across south Central Texas, the NWS said.
