Winter weather, including wintry precipitation, could return to Fort Worth early next week.
The NWS is tracking a cold front that will arrive in the region late Friday, Jan. 17, bringing arctic air and subfreezing temperatures along with it. As for snow and ice chances, confidence is increasing that wintry precipitation will arrive early next week.
“Right now, it looks like there’s about a 20 or so percent chance that we’ll see winter precipitation,” NWS meteorologist Allison Prater said Wednesday morning.
North Texas experienced its first winter storm of the year last week, when snow and wintry precipitation fell across the region. Over the 24-hour period on Jan. 9 and 10, Dallas Fort Worth International Airport recorded 2.6 inches of show, according to the National Weather Service Fort Worth.
Will it snow in Fort Worth?
What kind of wintry precipitation is in the mix for Fort Worth is uncertain at this time.
Whether it’s snow, sleet or rain, the NWS will continue to watch the winter weather potential as next week approaches, Prater said. Additionally, exact timing on the wintry precipitation and accumulation totals are also uncertain at this time.
As of now, the NWS has increasing confidence that some time of wintry precipitation will arrive late Monday, Jan. 20, into Tuesday, Jan. 21.
Temperatures will also be chilly early next week, with daily highs in the 30s and lows in the 10s and 20s. Wind chills will drop into the single digits early Monday and a cold weather advisory may be issued when the time comes, according to the NWS.
