An arctic front will bring cold temperatures to Fort Worth this weekend.

The National Weather Service Fort Worth is tracking the front that is likely to arrive in the region by late Friday, Jan. 17, into early Saturday, Jan. 18. A quick batch of showers may accompany the front, but rainfall totals are likely to be low.

Highs on Saturday will be in the 40s and 50s, before temperatures dip into the 20s that evening.

“Gusty north winds will drop wind chills into the teens to single digits by daybreak Sunday,” NWS Miles Langfeld wrote on the station’s forecast discussion page.

The Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo starts Friday, Jan. 17, followed by the All-Western Parade on Saturday. The parade through downtown Fort Worth has been a tradition since 1896, kicking off the oldest stock show in the city.

Last year’s parade had to contend with frigid temperatures — a tradition known as “Stock Show weather.”

Will Fort Worth see snow during the Stock Show?

Temperatures will be in the 30s during the day on Sunday, Jan. 19, and even chillier overnight.

North Texans will wake up to temperatures in the 15 to 20 degree range early Monday, Jan. 20. Daily highs on Martin Luther King Jr. Day (Monday) will be in the 30s.

Wintry precipitation with the arctic front does not appear likely based on the latest weather models, Langfeld wrote. Nevertheless, the NWS will continue monitoring the front this week to see if anything changes.

“In either case, the bitter cold will likely continue into the middle part of next week,” Langfeld wrote.
