Arctic air returns to Fort Worth this weekend. Here’s how low temperatures will dip
After winter weather froze Fort Worth last week, another round of arctic air is expected to arrive soon.
Much of North Texas received a mix of wintry precipitation on Jan. 9 and 10, including 2.6 inches of snow at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport. Many residents took advantage of the winter weather, by building snowmen and sliding down snowy hills.
A strong arctic air mass will arrive in the Metroplex on Sunday, Jan. 19, and cool off the following week, National Weather Service Fort Worth meteorologist Patricia Sánchez said.
While still several days out, Sunday’s temperatures are expected to be in the 40s with overnight lows in the 20s.
As of Monday, Jan. 13, the potential for wintry precipitation remains uncertain, as weather models are “all over the place” on timing, placement and progression, Sánchez said. Nevertheless, the NWS is sure that it will be cold in North Texas next week.
“Model trends will continue to be monitored, but for now, prepare for the return of very cold temperatures over much of the week,” Sánchez said.
