Could dry weather increase grass fire risk in Fort Worth? It’s possible, says meteorologist
Dallas-Fort Worth has an elevated grass fire risk this week, due to warm and dry weather.
Temperatures fluctuated from the high 80s to low 90s over the first week of October, according to National Weather Service Fort Worth data. Much of the same is in the forecast this week.
Temperatures will range from the mid-80s to mid-90s this week in Dallas-Fort Worth, NWS meteorologist Allison Prater said.
Overnight and morning lows will be in the mid 60s this week. Skies are expected to stay dry this week, with no rain chances in sight.
With the warm temperatures and dry air, there’s growing concerns of elevated grass fire threats in North Texas, Prater said. Since the region hasn’t recorded any measurable rainfall in sometime, grasses are dry and more susceptible to catch on fire.
Light winds are expected to keep the fire threat low this week, Prater said. Nevertheless, the NWS wants North Texans to stay aware and avoid outdoor activities such as driving in the grass or discarding lit cigarettes out of vehicles while driving.
