Cold front bringing storm chances and heat relief to Dallas-Fort Worth. Here’s when
After three straight days of triple-digit heat, Dallas-Fort Worth is in store for a slightly cooler and stormy weekend.
The North Texas region has recorded 13 days over 100 degrees this year thus far, according to National Weather Service Fort Worth data. This week alone, the region has reached 103 degrees twice and 101 degrees once.
A weak cold front made its way over Dallas-Fort Worth on Thursday evening, which will bring about a 20% chance of storms on Friday, said Tom Bradshaw, meteorologist-in-charge at the NWS Fort Worth office.
Friday’s storms will be isolated and scattered in North Texas, while Central Texas will have the greatest storm chances of the day during the afternoon and evening hours.
A similar 20% chance of storms is in the forecast for North Texas on Saturday, Bradshaw said. Due to the cold front, temperatures on Friday and Saturday will be in the mid-90s.
Warm next week is on the horizon
After rain chances and cooler temperatures to start the weekend, North Texas will end it by slowly heating up.
Storm chances aren’t expected on Sunday and temperatures will be in the upper 90s, Bradshaw said. A ridge of high pressure will move over North Texas on Sunday, increasing the heat going into next week.
North Texans can expect nearly triple-digit heat every day next week, with plenty of sunny skies. Here’s a look at the 7-day temperature outlook:
- Friday- 96 degrees
- Saturday- 96 degrees
- Sunday- 98 degrees
- Monday- 101 degrees
- Tuesday- 101 degrees
- Wednesday- 102 degrees
- Thursday- 102 degrees
