Has North Texas seen its last 100-degree day this year? Here’s what historical data shows
North Texas is finally seeing cooler weather this week, but have we seen the last of the sweltering 100-degree days?
Temperatures are expected to cool down to the mid 80s to low 90s this week, said Allison Prater, meteorologist at the National Weather Service’s Fort Worth office.
While triple digits aren’t in the weather service’s forecast for this week, the Climate Prediction Center is still showing above normal temperatures for the Metroplex in its eight- to 14-day outlook, Prater said.
However, that’s not necessarily a tell that triple-digit days will be back any time soon.
“As we get into the swing of fall, of course temperatures are going to be lower,” Prater said.
North Texas is known to record triple-digit days well into September and in some years even October.
Last year, temperatures in the triple digits wrapped up on Aug. 17, nearly a month earlier than in 2021 which recorded its final 100-degree day on Sept. 20. Going back to 2011, North Texas saw its last 100-degree day on Sept. 29.
But the latest a 100-degree day was recorded in the DFW area was on Oct. 3, 1951, at 106 degrees.
