A heat advisory is in effect for North Texas until 8 p.m. Sunday, the National Weather Service announced.

High temperatures will range from the upper 90s to around 105 degrees for the Fort Worth and Dallas areas.

Other counties affected include Denton, Collin, Wise, Cooke and Johnson.

High humidity levels will result in peak index values of 105 to 110 degrees for both Saturday and Sunday afternoons, increasing the risk for heat-related illnesses, primarily for those working or participating in activities outdoors.

The NWS recommends practicing heat safety by drinking plenty of water and taking frequent rest breaks in shade or air conditioning.

The NWS also urges residents to never leave children or pets unattended in vehicles.
