Damian Torres, 21, turned himself in Saturday after a car crash on Friday that killed a child, the Grand Prairie Police Department announced.

At around 10:45 p.m. Friday, a silver Ford Mustang was traveling south when it struck a Honda Civic that was turning left onto East Cober Drive.

The driver of the Ford Mustang fled the scene on foot, according to police.

Another passenger of the Mustang was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A juvenile passenger of the Honda, a 12-year-old boy, was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead.

The identity of the deceased will be released by the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office once next of kin have been notified.

The driver of the Ford Mustang was identified as 21-year-old Torres.

Torres turned himself in Saturday and is being held at the Grand Prairie Detention Center on four charges:

  • manslaughter with a $50,000 bond
  • aggravated assault with a deadly weapon with a $25,000 bond
  • accident involving death with a $25,000 bond
  • accident involving injury with a $10,000 bond

The crash is under further investigation.
