By Thursday night, temperatures will drop into the low 30s, with the high for Friday remaining below 40 degrees. Rain, mixed with sleet, is expected to hit Dallas Fort-Worth before 9 a.m. Friday, with a 60% chance of precipitation continuing throughout the day.

A quick transition from rain to sleet and snow is expected to limit ice accumulation in the DFW area, the weather service said.

“Temperatures will be cold enough for wintry precipitation across portions of North and Central Texas on Friday. Accumulations of snow and sleet may occur mainly in the blue shaded areas,” the National Weather Service said, referring to a map highlighting areas north of Dallas-Fort Worth. “Cold rain is expected elsewhere. Precipitation will end from west to east Friday afternoon. There are uncertainties in the forecast, so continue to monitor for updates this week as details are refined.”

Minor travel impacts, such as ice on bridges and overpasses, are more likely in the northern parts of the region.

Wind gusts may pick up to as high as 30 mph.

What the National Weather Service described as “unseasonably cold conditions,” will continue into Friday night with sub-freezing temperatures in the 20s with wind chills that will make it feel like single-digit to low teens.

“Take precautions by avoiding extended time outside, dressing warmly if you have to get out, and protecting the 4 P’s: People, Pets, Plants, and Pipes,” the weather service said.

By early morning Saturday, residents can expect a “quick warm up,” with lows in the 20s, but gradually increasing up to temperatures in the 50s and low 60s by the afternoon.

By Monday, temperatures around the Metroplex are expected to hit highs in the 70s and 80s.
