The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Tarrant and surrounding counties in North Texas until 2 a.m. Tuesday as rain moves into the area.

Other counties under the watch include Parker, Palo Pinto, Dallas, Denton Collin and Wise.

Hail is the primary threat but damaging winds are also possible, according to the weather service.

At 9:30 p.m., radar showed strong storms developing in Parker County and moving east-northeast.

The forecast calls for a 50% chance of rain until 7 a.m. Tuesday in the Fort Worth area. Temperatures will start out in the mid 60s in the morning before a cold front sweeps into North Texas late in the afternoon.

Light rain with a possible mix of freezing rain is expected to move into the area by Wednesday morning as temperatures plunge to near 32.

A wintry mix could continue into Thursday as a light glaze of some bridges and roads are possible around North Texas, the weather service said.

High temperatures will remain in the low to mid 40s through Saturday before a warmup begins on Sunday into next week.
