Windy, wet and winter weather conditions predicted for North Texas in the next few days

This is the week that North Texans should be ready for all kinds of weather.

First, on Monday, an elevated grass fire threat was issued for counties west of Fort Worth because of dry conditions, breezy winds and warm temperatures.

In those areas, high temperatures were in the 80s and southwest winds were 10 to 15 mph.

Tarrant County saw a high around 85 on Monday with some sprinkles during the day.

Then beginning Monday evening into early Tuesday morning, there was expected to be a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms for Tarrant County and most areas of North Texas.

The best chances for severe storms, those packing large hail and damaging winds, were expected to be north of Tarrant County. Fort Worth was forecast to have a slight chance of storms.

“Some areas of Tarrant County could end up totally dry,” said meteorologist Matt Stalley at the National Weather Service in Fort Worth on Monday.

Winter returns on Tuesday to North Texas.

A cold front packing very cold temperatures arrives mid-day Tuesday.

“You are going to see a sharp temperature drop,” Stalley said.

On Tuesday, North Texans might see temperatures in the lower 70s, but temperatures could be in the 40s by the afternoon commute home.

There won’t be a wintry mix on Tuesday, according to the NWS in Fort Worth.

But light rain is in the forecast for Wednesday morning, when temperatures will be at or below freezing. The low temperature on Wednesday for Tarrant County should be at 30.
