Yes, Virginia, Santa and Christmas could be coming in hot this weekend in North Texas
Breezy south winds and low humidity in the next few days means Santa and Christmas Day could be coming in hot this weekend in North Texas, according to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth.
Daytime temperatures will be near or exceeding record highs on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
North Texans will get some cool weather on Thursday as high temperatures are expected in the mid-70s.
Then, here comes the warmer weather.
“We’re going to get warm air, south winds and lots of sunshine,” said meteorologist Madison Gordon with the National Weather Service in Fort Worth on Thursday. “That could mean record high temperatures on Christmas Day.”
The daytime high on Christmas Eve is expected to be 83. The record high is 88 set in 1955.
Christmas Day’s record high of 80, set in 2016, could fall. Forecasters are calling for a high of 83.
All this warm weather and dry conditions have forecasters issuing an elevated fire danger for several counties west and northwest of Fort Worth on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
The warm temperatures will stick for several days.
“We are not going to get any decent cool down for a while,” Gordon said. “We still have January and February.”
