Overnight rain, storms with some quarter-size hail expected in North Texas, then cold
North Texans might have some problems sleeping late Friday and early Saturday as scattered showers and a few strong to severe storms are in the forecast.
And in some of the strong storms, residents might get some quarter-size hail and wind gusts with the rain.
The showers and storms are expected to arrive late Friday, and linger until Saturday daybreak.
“In Tarrant County, we’re looking at receiving about half an inch of rain,” said meteorologist Monique Sellers with the National Weather Service in Fort Worth on Friday. “The rain will be around until daybreak, and then hang around until at least mid-Saturday.”
All of that comes as a strong cold front arrives late Friday, bringing moisture and much colder air for the final weekend before Christmas.
Saturday morning temperatures will start at 50, and then drop a few degrees for the rest of the day. Daytime highs will be in the upper 40s in Tarrant County.
North Texans also should get ready for a breezy Saturday with north winds at 20 to 25 mph, some gusting to 35 mph.
That will make it cold for a Saturday Christmas shopping day in North Texas.
The north winds will taper off by Saturday evening, but it will stay cool on Sunday.
The low on Sunday morning should be in the upper 30s, and the high temperatures will be in the upper 40s for Sunday.
There are no rain chances for Sunday or Monday.
