Heavy rainfall, potential floods forecast in North Texas starting Wednesday evening
Heavy rainfall with potential flooding is expected for the North Texas region starting Wednesday afternoon.
Intermittent rain in the Fort Worth area started around 4 p.m. and is expected to gradually increase in coverage to more of Dallas-Fort Worth in the evening, National Weather Service meteorologist Monique Sellers said.
As of Wednesday afternoon, areas outside Dallas-Fort Worth are predicted to get heavier rainfall. Sellers said around 2-3 inches of rain is expected across the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
“We’re expecting [rainfall] to really continue overnight and the heavy rain and the flooding will be more of the concern, but this will continue through the overnight hours,” she said. “Most of [Thursday] we’re expecting kind of east of the metroplex and East Texas area to be kind of the bullseye area for that heavy rain.”
The National Weather Service reports isolated chances for hail, with the strongest storms in Palo Pinto County, she said. Hail storms are not expected to be widespread in Tarrant County.
For evening and morning commuters, Sellers said, the biggest thing is to heed any warnings and pay attention to signs redirecting drivers from water-covered roadways.
“Pay attention to what’s going on around you,” she said. “It’s not a bad idea to check the weather before you hit the roadways.”
