Guess what? Cold front in Fort Worth-area forecast to bring chance of heavy rain, hail
Here’s something you don’t see often in a North Texas summer: a cold front.
The front arrives Thursday night in counties to the northwest of Fort Worth, bringing the possibility of a few thunderstorms that could produce pockets of heavy rainfall, damaging winds and small hail.
The cold front is expected to arrive early Friday in Fort Worth.
“It’s quite unusual,” said meteorologist Allison Prater at the National Weather Service in Fort Worth on Thursday, referring to a summer cold front. “And once it passes through, there will still be chances of strong winds and hail.”
The chances of showers and thunderstorms are at 30 percent on Thursday night and 30 percent on Friday.
For those who get storms, Tarrant County should see rainfall totals under a half inch of rain.
The strong to severe storms will be mostly in areas with hotter temperatures.
The heavy rainfall could cause minor flooding in some North Texas neighborhoods, according to a forecast by the National Weather Service in Fort Worth.
Northwest winds will bring cooler temperatures to North Texas on Friday. Daytime highs should be about 90. Those same high temperatures should be around for the next several days.
Rain chances are not in the forecast for Saturday, but a chance of moisture returns Sunday night.
There are chances of showers and thunderstorms on Monday and Tuesday.
