Rain, storms in weekend forecast for North Texas, then cold temps arrive Sunday night
The operative weather words for the next few days in North Texas are sunny, rain, more rain and then a blast of cold.
North Texans could wake up Monday morning to temperatures in the mid-30s, and those cold temperatures will stick around for several days next week.
Those temperatures will come just days after a record-breaking high of 97 degrees on Wednesday.
But before all that, North Texans had sunny skies on Friday with temperatures around 70 degrees. A slight chance of showers in Tarrant County was to begin on Friday night, and some isolated storms could be severe with the chance of storms increasing Saturday and Sunday.
“The better chances of rain on Saturday will be later in the day,” said Matt Salley, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, in a telephone interview with the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
There’s an 80 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms on Saturday in Tarrant County. The high temperature should be around 69.
On Easter morning, rain chances once again will be high. Most of the showers and thunderstorms will be Sunday morning with a daytime temperature of 78.
Then, forecasters say a “strong cold” front arrives in North Texas on Sunday evening, forcing residents to scramble for their gloves, scarfs and jackets.
Breezy north winds will cause temperatures to plummet. The temperatures will go down into the 30s by Monday morning.
But at least there will be no rain expected with the cold front.
“This front will remind us that this is still early spring,” Salley said Friday.
Daytime temperatures will be in the mid-50s on Monday.
North Texans will have another cold morning on Tuesday as temperatures will be in the upper 30s. The highs on Tuesday will be in the upper 50s.
Morning temperatures will stay in the 40s for several days with daytime temperatures in the 60s.
