As cold front arrives, expect severe storms Friday in North Texas, maybe a little snow
Storms will arrive in Fort Worth on Friday afternoon, with severe weather possible beginning around noon, according to the National Weather Service.
Areas of North Texas just west of Interstate 35/35W and eastward into East Texas — including the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area — will have the potential of hazardous weather, the weather service said. Severe thunderstorms will be capable of producing large hail, damaging winds and tornadoes Friday afternoon and evening.
With heavy rain, flash flooding will also be possible, mainly in areas that are both east of I-35 and north of I-30, the weather service forecast says.
The storms are expected to arrive ahead of a cold front approaching from the northwest.
Snow will even be possible north of the I-20 corridor Saturday morning with some light accumulations mainly north of US 380. But no major travel hazards are expected because any snow that does fall will likely melt on contact or blow off the road due to the windy conditions, the weather service said.
Mild temperatures are forecast before the storms, with a high on Friday in the low-70s. After the front, the temperature will drop to the mid-30s on Friday night. A high in the mid-40s is forecast for Saturday.
