Arlington police investigate five-vehicle crash on I-20 caused by apparent road rage
Arlington police are investigating a crash involving five vehicles Wednesday morning that was apparently caused by road rage, officials said.
Officers responded to the eastbound lanes of Interstate 20 between Cooper Street and Matlock Road shortly before 8:30 a.m. They found an overturned sport utility vehicle and a pickup truck that had rolled on its side, police said.
Eyewitnesses told police that two vehicles got involved in a road rage incident, and one of them tried to brake check the other. That caused other vehicles behind them to stop suddenly and swerve.
The vehicles involved in the road rage incident continued driving, but five other vehicles behind them crashed, police said. Two people were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police said they don’t yet have a good description of the two vehicles from the road rage incident. The investigation is ongoing.
The Arlington Police Department posted on social media shortly before 9 a.m. that they were working a major accident in the eastbound lanes of I-20 at Cooper Street. Drivers were encouraged to take alternate routes to avoid the lane closures, and significant delays were expected.
Around 9:45 a.m. the Texas Department of Transportation announced on X that all lanes were open.
