Trinity Metro riders will soon have a way to locate their next bus from a tap of their smartphone.

Chad Edwards, Vice President of Planning and Development, said Trinity Metro is working on a project called Transit Master which will provide data pinpointing the locations of all its buses. The interactive map will be incorporated in the Trinity Metro GoPass smartphone app, which is also where riders can currently plan their trips and buy tickets.

Trinity Metro has over 25 bus routes throughout Fort Worth, along with its Xpress bus routes and specialty services.

A definitive release date has not been announced yet. For now, Edwards said they’re working on incorporating the system into the app, but he expects the project to fully roll out later this year.

Edwards said Trinity Metro previously used a software called Next Bus, which was bought out by another company and no longer exists. Since then, he said riders have asked for a way to track where buses are located on their routes, so they’ve been working on the new Transit Master system.

“That’s what everybody’s been asking for,” he said. “Cause I don’t know when the bus arrives, but if I knew when the bus arrives by using my app on my phone, I might be more inclined to use the bus if I knew how close it was.”
