Shy cat ends up at shelter when owner moves to assisted living. He needs a family
When a cat attaches themselves to a human they love, their world is suddenly fragile and even the slightest inconvenience can throw them for a loop.
And for one feline in Texas, everything changed when his owner had to give him up.
Andre, a timid but loving cat at the South Plains Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) in Lubbock, is adjusting to a new life filled with sounds and smells that he isn’t used to, the shelter said.
“Andre is a handsome black cat whose life was recently turned upside down when his elderly owner had to move into assisted living and could no longer care for him,” the shelter said in an Oct. 7 Facebook post.
“We know that his owner loved him and Andre was well-cared for.Understandably, Andre is a little shy and uncertain after losing his family and the only home he’s ever known.”
But it seems like the sudden shift in his world isn’t holding back Andre’s warmth toward people who show him love.
“Despite his displacement, Andre’s sweet personality shines through. He is incredibly appreciative of the love and care he is receiving in rescue and warms up quickly once he feels safe. This gentle boy adores pets and scratches,” the shelter said.
“He leans into affection with soft gratitude giving head butts and rubs to humans. It is unknown whether or not he had any exposure to dogs, kids, or other cats but he seems a bit nervous when other cats get close.”
An ideal home for Andre would be a patient one, the shelter notes, where he’d be able to relax and move at his own speed.
“Once he trusts you, his sweet nature blossoms, and he’ll be a loyal loving companion.”
