Brokenhearted cat won’t eat after owner dies. Shelter scrambles to find him home
A shelter in Texas is frantically attempting to do what they can for a cat who is in mourning for his human.
Baby, a brokenhearted cat who arrived at the Kerrville Pets Alive shelter not too long ago, left a stable home for a noisy kennel environment after losing the most important person in his life.
“His owner passed away and was surrendered to Kerr County Animal Services. A sudden loss of an owner or life change can be terrifying for cats. He is so scared that he has not wanted to eat in two days,” the shelter said in a Sept. 27 Facebook post.
The video shows a beautiful gray striped cat with large white markings looking absolutely crushed and frightened as he lays in the back of his crate.
He holds so still that the video looks like a photograph.
“We are funding his hospitalization and veterinary care over the weekend with the hope that he will begin eating,” the shelter said. “We will do our best to make him feel loved and secure as we search for the perfect home for him.”
McClatchy News has reached out to the shelter for more information on Baby on Oct. 1 but has yet to receive a response.
Kerrville is about a 100-mile drive southwest from Austin.
