A 77-year-old man collapsed at work and died after he was stabbed during his commute, and now his accused killer is in custody, Texas officials say.

The man was riding his bike to work at 5:55 a.m. Aug. 7 when another man appeared from behind a fence and attacked, the Houston Police Department said in a news release. Despite being wounded, he continued pedaling until he arrived and his co-workers called 911, police said.

After telling his co-workers what happened, Anival Elvir Ortiz collapsed, and he was taken to a hospital where he later died, police told KHOU.

Police shared video of his suspected attacker, asking the public to come forward with information that could help lead to an arrest.

Five days later, on Aug. 12, police say they learned Aaron Bartholomew Sheehan, 40, was at an abandoned motel in Stafford, a southwestern suburb of Houston, KPRC reported. A SWAT team arrested him, officials said.

Based on video obtained by investigators, police say Sheehan approached Ortiz and stabbed him in the back, KHOU reported, though it’s unclear what may have motivated that attack.
