A man crashed his vehicle during a cross-country road trip, and his body wasn’t found for weeks, Iowa authorities said.

Marcus Anthony Taylor, 31, was traveling from Fort Worth, Texas, to Wisconsin to visit his dying grandmother when he vanished, according to a post from Missing Persons In the USA.

His license plate was read in northern Missouri on April 8, but there was no record of him after that, the missing person page said.

Before he was entered as a missing person, authorities in Hamilton County, Iowa, discovered his crashed Hyundai Santa Fe the night of April 8, according to the sheriff’s office. At the time, deputies were unable to link the car to Taylor.

Despite an extensive search that night, authorities were unable to locate the driver of the crashed vehicle, the sheriff said.

The search ended April 25, when Taylor was discovered “on a nearby acreage that was roughly 1 mile away from the original crash site/search area,” authorities said.

The sheriff’s office said Taylor was found inside a closed structure, which he likely sought to find shelter after the crash. Foul play is not suspected.

His grandmother died April 18 in Wisconsin Rapids, according to family friend Aaron Johnson.

“He was a bright, young man, who had so much life ahead of him,” Lori Taylor said on Facebook. “We are saddened by this loss, but comforted that he joins his mom Maria and recently passed Granny in heaven!”

Hamilton County is about a 65-mile drive north from Des Moines.
