A 67-year-old man was stabbed 25 times outside a convenience store, including 15 times after he already was motionless on the ground, Texas authorities say.

Now, authorities in Houston are searching for 52-year-old Alvaro Lovos, who KTRK and KHOU reported was the neighbor of the victim. Lovos lives in an apartment attached to the store, according to court records.

Officers were dispatched Nov. 19 to a street corner outside the store and apartment for an assault in progress, police said. Family members found the victim, Charlie Wilson, had been stabbed.

Wilson, who police said was stabbed repeatedly with a machete, was pronounced dead at the scene. Of his 25 stab wounds, 15 occurred as his body was lifeless, according to the court records.

Wilson died by “multiple sharp force injuries with chop wounds of the head and neck,” an autopsy ruled.

Lovos was identified as a suspect after officers reviewed surveillance footage, police said. He was interviewed and told officers he saw two men walking away from Wilson’s body, police said.

Officers did not arrest Lovos, but he has now been charged with murder after authorities confirmed he was the machete-wielding man seen in the surveillance video, court records say.

No motive was given in the killing.

Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Lovos is asked to contact Houston police at 713-308-3600.

“They’re gonna get him. He can run, but he can’t hide,” Willie Ray Wilson, Charlie Wilson’s brother, told KTRK. “They’ll soon catch up with him. He ain’t gonna get away.”
