Y’all really like corny dogs — here’s how many the State Fair of Texas sold in 2024
Nearly 2.4 million people visited the State Fair of Texas this year.
The annual 24-day event wrapped up over the weekend at Dallas’ Fair Park. Since 1886, the fair has been a way for Texans to celebrate agriculture, education and community.
With festivities now over, the fair revealed several statistics about this year’s event, including how many corny dogs were sold. The fair also announced that 2025’s event will be from Sept. 26 to Oct. 19.
Here’s what to know about this year’s fair:
How many people visited the State Fair of Texas this year?
Nearly 2.4 million people visited the fair this year, an increase from last year’s 2.3 million attendance.
However, the largest fair attendance of the last few years came in 2022, when 2.5 million people visited.
The busiest day of the 2024 fair was Saturday Oct. 12, with over 211,000 people visited. That Saturday was the annual Red River Showdown between Texas and Oklahoma, which the Longhorns won 34-3.
Over 549,000 visitor guides were handed out, nearly 12,200 calls were answered by the Big Tex Contact Center and the fair’s social media channels gained 55,559 new followers.
How many corny dogs were sold at the fair this year?
Fletcher’s Original Corny Dogs sold approximately 550,000 corny dogs this year.
The fried food company has been a fixture at the annual event since debuting its corny dogs at the 1942 fair. The eatery also serves funnel cakes, curly fries, deep-fried Oreos and mustard-flavored beer.
To go with their more than half a million corny dogs, Fletcher’s went through 1,800 gallons of mustard and 850 gallons of ketchup this year.
Fletcher’s 2024 corny dog totals were higher than the 518,000 it sold in 2023. Still, the highest number of corny dogs sold at the fair in recent years was in 2022 at 583,000.
Other high selling fair food came in the form of cotton candy bacon on stick and taquitos.
Isaac Rousso’s cotton candy bacon a stick, which was a winner at this year’s Big Tex Choice Awards food competition, sold 100,000 bacon pieces at the fair.
Tony’s Taco Shop hand rolled and sold over 60,000 individual taquitos at the fair.
A few other State Fair of Texas statistics
Here’s a few other statistical standouts from the fair:
- Over 1.88 million free tickets were given to students throughout North Texas.
- Over 180,000 canned food items were collected and donated to the North Texas Food Bank.
- Over 52,000 military members and their families visited and utilized the fair’s special discount.
- More than 400,000 prizes were won at the fair’s Midway, with an estimated value of $1.4 million.
- More than 100,000 rides were take on the fair’s Texas Star ferris wheel.
