A Texas man was arrested after police say he robbed and killed a 90-year-old man at a senior living facility.

Kyliel Denzel Arceneaux, 21, is charged with capital murder, two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and tampering with evidence, according to a news release from the Houston Police Department.

Contact information for Arceneaux’s attorney was not available.

Around 12:45 p.m. Aug. 31, police were called for a report of an assault in the parking lot of Lone Star Living, a senior independent living facility.

Police found a man, later identified as Nelson Beckett, 90, lying in the parking lot with gunshot wounds, the release said.

Beckett was near his car when he was attacked, police said.

Arceneaux shot Beckett and took his belongings, then took Beckett’s car and struck the man as he drove away, police said.

Beckett died as a result of a gunshot wound to his lung and being hit by the car, a judge said, according to KVUE.

His son and daughter shared a statement with the news outlet.

“He was the kindest, funniest man you’d ever meet. He loved meeting people and greeted them all with jokes and his famous business card, which said ‘my card.’ He loved to make someone laugh and brighten their day. To him, everyone had value. He spent his days driving people places who did not have a car. Driving them to doctors appointments, FEMA, rehab, stores, etc., wherever they needed to go. He would drive some friends from a halfway house to panhandle and take them to church on Sundays. He even baptized several of them. He would do anything for anyone. He loved big and loved his family so much.”

Beckett was a Navy veteran, according to Texas Gov. Greg Abbott.

“Our hearts go out to his family and loved ones, and the entire Houston community during this difficult time,” Abbott said in a statement.

Beckett’s car was later found at an apartment complex.

Arceneaux was arrested on Sept. 3, according to police.
