‘Cowards’ steal woman’s car and hit her 3-year-old as they flee, Mississippi police say
A 3-year-old boy was struck by a car after police say his mother was robbed at gunpoint at a Mississippi park.
It happened Saturday, June 1, as the woman and her son were playing at Jayne Avenue Park in Jackson, WLBT reported, citing the city’s police department.
Investigators said three men approached them and demanded their belongings.
The suspects then carjacked the woman and hit her young son as they sped away, WAPT reported, citing Police Chief Joseph Wade.
“It absolutely ruined my Saturday to hear about this 3-year-old child being struck who was simply in the park trying to have fun,” Wade told WAPT.
The child was taken to a hospital with head injuries and is expected to recover, police told WLBT.
The suspects remained on the run as of Monday. They’re wanted on charges of armed robbery, aggravated assault and auto theft, WJTV reported, citing police.
“We’re going to work very hard, to find out who these cowards are,” Wade told WAPT.
