Looks like everybody wants to be a Texan.

Since July 2021, 470,708 have moved to the Lone Star state and increased the population to 30,029,572, according to a press release from the U.S. Census. Texas joins California as one of only two states in the country that have populations over 30 million.

That growth was largely triggered by net domestic migration, which added 230,961 people, net international migration, which added 118,614 people, and natural increase, which added 118,159.

While it was clear people wanted to move to Texas (it was 2022’s largest gaining state), the state didn’t quite take the title for the nation’s fastest growing state. The crown instead went to Florida, which grew 1.9% in 2022 to bump its population to 22,244,823, according to the Census press release.
