Dallas-Fort Worth is the least affordable metro in Texas, ranking below Austin and Houston
Dallas-Fort Worth is the least affordable Texas city, according to a review of the Cost of Living Index by EverythingLubbock.com.
The Cost of Living Index, which is developed by the Council for Community and Economic Research, ranks the affordability of cities based on six categories: housing, groceries, utilities, transportation, health care and miscellaneous.
The national average is 100. So any place ranked below 100 is more affordable than the average. Places ranked higher are more expensive.
Of the 18 metros included in the index, all are less expensive than the national average, but DFW is less affordable than the others.
In the Dallas-Fort Worth, utilities are the most expensive category. DFW residents spend about 10% more on utilities than the national average. According to the index, the average monthly cost of electricity in the area was $209.
