With sons in the house, pregnant mom killed by their dad on Christmas, Texas cops say
A pregnant mom in Texas was killed while dropping off her sons at their father’s house on Christmas Day, media outlets report.
The boys watched as their mother was shot, a family member told WOAI.
Gabriella Rodriguez, 24, was dropping off her two children at the San Antonio home of their father on Christmas Day, the San Antonio Express News reported. Outside, her boyfriend waiting in a car heard gunshots and ran inside to find Rodriguez shot in the head, the newspaper reported.
Police said the children’s 27-year-old father shot himself and was in “extremely bad condition,” the San Antonio Express News reported.
Rodriguez was 8-months pregnant, and her sons are ages 2 and 6, KENS reported.
The baby did not survive the shooting, KSAT reported.
“It’s supposed to be a day that we’re celebrating Christ,” authorities said, according to KENS. “Not a day that we’re killing each other.”
Rodriguez’s mother, Rosario Gutierrez Garcia, told WOAI that the boys watched as their mother was killed. She said her daughter’s relationship with their father was “tumultuous,” but she wanted him remain in their lives as a parent, according to WOAI.
“My daughter was a very loving mother, a beautiful daughter, funny, courageous, and she was just a go-getter,” Garcia told the San Antonio TV station.
The boys will live with the grandmother and receive counseling through a non-profit organization, KENS reported.
