Bowl holders designed to work in microwaves have been recalled. Some caught on fire

You don’t expect something designed to hold a bowl in a microwave to be ignited by microwave heat. That’s why Demdaco recalled 56,569 microwaveable bowl holders in the United States and Canada.

The exact problem, as stated in the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recall alert: “The bowl holder’s fabric can char after being microwaved for the suggested three minutes, posing a fire hazard.”

The company knows about three bowl holders catching fire.

This covers square bowl holders with 6.5-inch sides and 8-inch sides, sold in 27 designs by Demdaco.com, Zulily.com, Amazon.com, Target.com and various brick-and-mortar gift shops, florists, hardware stores and pharmacies nationwide for $23. “DEMDACO” is on the tag sewn into the side of the holders, which were sold in pairs.

If you have one or several of the bowl holders, stop using them. Return however many bowl holders you have to the store of purchase for a full refund or, if you bought them online, contact Demdaco for free return shipping.
